Tonights debate

Let me start by saying I am disgusted by McCain tonight. I thought he was better than that! I can see asking heavy questions... but that was uncalled for. He was more into making Obama look bad than answering the debate questions of what he would do.

Again: On the issue of health insurance... I'm I the only one listening? People that do not understand the Obama plan have not spent enough time in the hospital. For one thing, there are a lot of people that do not have coverage and over use the emergency room. It also sort of insures that everyone will have coverage. The only problem I have with it is that it is government run...which is problematic, but can be done as we have seen in other countries. I think health care should be a basic right. Every Tom, Dick and Harry should be able to afford it. It should not be decided by insurance companies.
Health care in America is one of my pet peeves. I do not understand why it costs so much and how one of the wealthiest countries in the world can have that many people without coverage and in debt because they couldn't afford it. Who pays for that then...aha! You the tax payer!!! yay!!!
McCain's plan is commendable-- give money to people and let them decide how they will use it. LOL...seriously give me the $5000 and I will buy myself something nice or ....I don't know... pay off some debt? Many people will not pay for health care with that money. I understand the fear of having government run things... but really, majority of 'joe the plumbers' will most likely use the money elsewhere.

On abortion-- I will forever be pro life... but I do respect Obama's stance. Abortion is not an easy decision to make and we should really be encouraging people to practice safe sex...and to think of adoption.
Immigration?-- Nothing really said. Disappointing.

So I know I've been slacking--what else is new right?

I sort of had a very good and very bad week...and I am sure I just confused y'all, but really, I had several very good things happen and several really bad things happen. I wont fret about it though because I am still standing innit?

Crazy though: you know how I am always saying probability is like my enemy? Well this man that annoyed me 2 years ago walks in and is my client... now for real???? I was sitting there like God you can not be serious! Okay I think I amuse God and that's why s/he pulls stunts like that.... to see my reaction:-) Don't worry...I didn't go all ghetto on him. I was very professional and only said what was minimally required and asked my co-workers to do the bulk of the work.

I think I mentioned that over a month ago I sent my passport to the Zambian embassy for renewal right? So any way, no one has ever responded to say they got my information and whether it is sufficient and all. So being goody two shoes, I emailed (coz no one ever answers the phone), and I got a lovely email informing me that a) It takes 3 months to get your passport back and b) The prices have since gone up since I sent my stuff in and it's now $100!!!.

So my thing is... if I hadn't written in, how would I have known all that? Also, if my application was sent in before the price change, shouldn't I be grandfathered into the old place? I'm just saying ka?. It doesn't make any logic for me to mail more money when I'm not even sure they got my stuff and if processing has began!

I will keep you posted on the passport saga. My fear is that they will loose my passport. They lost my cousins one and they also lost my friend Natasha's one... so that's 2 people.

Friday I went out for a drink with a newly broken-up-from-her-boyfriend person... guess what happened at the place we landed at first? They had 3 weddings in the building, and they band was playing love songs....LOLOL... I was like...ummm, lets get out of here I think! The next place was like all twelve year olds with fake ID's or something... then the last place in Fells point kinda hit the spot.

Saturday... my lovely mates took me to http://www.woodberrykitchen.com/ It was really awesome. Will post pics later. I loved the steak I ate...and the ambiance. Apparently it's a really popular spot and one needs to make reservations early...which we did and still couldn't get in till 8. The food is all organic. The portions European sized-- or shall I say upscale restaurant size. So you really do have room for appetizers, main dish and dessert. The only problem was out waiter has absolutely reeking breath!!! I mean... he could kill rats with that stuff!!! We all gave anyone who asked him too many questions at our table the 'look'... we were like just eat whatever...don't ask the dude any questions! By the end of the night-- we gather someone told him why we kept laughing when he came over...and he got some mint or a drink. Whatever it was.... it sho fixed the problem!

Sunday is a blurr--- I was recovering from Friday and Saturday and didn't achieve much.

Monday-- I felt like a princess...:-)

Oh and I see news week is just now addressing whether Catholics should vote for Obama or not. Like for real? I broke that story months ago!!! www.manena20.blogspot.com/2008/06/confused-catholic-voter.html I should be writing for a big paper or something. I seem to way ahead of them. A catholic nun who is 106 years old is voting for the first time since 1952 or whatever...and she's voting for Obama:-) That's cute.

Sarah Palin is pulling all the stops this election and will on TV talking about what it's like to raise a child with Downs Syndrome. I had more faith in her ability to steal the show... but it's like shadow fell over her...and now the palinator doesn't seem to know how to aim her guns!

McCain had promised a clean campaign... but oldielox seems to be pulling out his dentures and forgetting to change his diaper! I liked him better in the republican race. He was even tempered and seemed as experienced as he is. Now he's just a big baby.

I however I'm concerned that I do not hear anything about immigration from the two presidential wanna be's. Hopefully they will address that tomorrow night. In the republican race McCain was logical on the subject... I hope the fear of loosing hasn't distorted his vision by making him say strange things now! Obama-- I do not recall what he says on the subject at all. I may read on it at some point. Too lazy at present.

Any way: I will be getting lied to by politicians for a few minutes: tomorrow-)

Sarah Palin pro's and con's

Yeah... I've been slacking..and I know you're all thinking why in the world did she only say one line on Palin? Well honestly... Gustav got in the way of the convention and I lost track and got bored with everyone "being so caring" please gag me!!!

So back to Sarah my new friend... I do not believe that was McCain's best choice, but he did good in his selection and this will make for an interesting election. I know people say "we don't vote for vice presidents, we vote for presidents", but really, if McCain drops d.e.a.d by say... I don't know... next spring? Well that will make her the first female president. So yes, a V.P is very important! I believe after this choice, I can confidently say McCain will win. Not because he's a better candidate or whatever, but because a lot of people wont see the Palin move as calculated as it was. They needed a woman to get the 'sisters of the traveling pant suits' on board and they got her.

A gun totting runner up beauty pageant contestant from Alaska, who's husband is a blue collar worker, and who's teenage daughter didn't get the memo on abstinence. The real American dream team.

Pro's in my eyes

• She is pro-life
• She refused to abort her baby even when informed he would be born with downs syndrome even though 90% of women given this news chose to abort.
• Her son will be in Iraq
• She's a woman
• The christians will eat her up like manna from heaven
• She believes doctors should manage health care and not bureaucracies
• Lowering taxes here and there

Con's

• Guns. I hate guns.
• She has nothing on immigration
• She would sign the death penalty bill
• She is not a friend of the environmentalists
• Has nothing at all on foreign policy

Now for the evaluation. I think the 'deep down yonder' republicans needed a reason-- any reason to stand by McCain and this was it. It's not so much that they think Palin is the worlds greatest, but, they needed a reason to vote for their candidate. To start with Palin smoked weed when it was legal in Alaska (might be a closet smoker now), her teenage daughter will have a baby daddy (totally a no no for holier than thou republicans because it kills their little abstinence is important thing), She has little experience to manage world issues and has only traveled outside the USA like maybe twice? If America is a super power shouldn't it's leaders have knowledge of the rest of the world to maintain that position?

I resent that they keep saying her lack of experience is like Obama's. That is total crap. Obama graduated magna cum laude from Harvard law school and was a senator. She graduated from colleges with no entry requirements with a degree in journalism and is a governor of Alaska. It doesn't take much skill to be elected in your home town for anything. Dude, this is the same trick that was being investigated for firing her ex brother in law for custody issues! Abuse of power?

I think the reason a lot of women are lapping her up is because there are a lot of bitter Hillary supporters...or rather feminist groups that are ready for change, but want a woman to make that change. To them it really doesn't matter who the woman is so long as she has a vagina.

As women we should be really upset that this is the choice. Of all the educated and savvy women in politics, this is really the best that McCain could do? Where is Condoleeza? Heck... they could have asked Hillary if it was like that!

It wont surprise me when the enquirer has breaking news about her secret life. Just like they took down Edwards! Okay I wrote too much and I'm too tired to read it... hope it sounds logical.

DNC opening

Okay my hormones must be all out of whack!!! I watched the whole opening and I cried several times...OMG!

Things of note:- The dems can sure throw a party!
Edward Kennedy: This is a die hard Democrat and I cried when I saw how much public service he has done. The health care professional in me though was cringing every time he shook hands with people because of his weakened immunity at present.

Jim Leach:- This is a die hard Republican and he is passionate about his country. I enjoyed the brief history lesson. I loved that he said "country comes before party." He has issues with his party at the moment, but knows it's about the progress of the country and not the little issues they may have in his party. Impressive.

Michelle Obama:- I cried several times. She has really become a butterfly. She was controlled, calm, collected and didn't sound as 'black panther-ish' as before. She definitely has a coach and the coach is doing a good job! The only issue I had with her is that as first lady, you must know how to pronounce things and the word IRAQ is pronounced eerak and not I- raq. She really did try to fix her husbands faux pas about the blue collar workers. The babies are just devine:-) The little one is a smarty pants-- so cute!

I can not wait for the rest.... 88th anniversary of women being able to vote-- excellent. All in all the speakers inspired me to feel like I can do more. One day at a time:-)

Dem convention and other news

Anyshway-- The dem convention started off with a bang...Billary spoke--and I got nauseated just listening. I swear I used to like the Clintons...but I am now questioning myself about that. I suppose it's the way her supporters are acting and the things I have heard said. Can you believe that there are people that will not vote for Obama because he short listed Hillary then didn't nominate her for VP??? what kind of doodoo is that? It's either you belong to the party and believe in it's values or you belong to the party because you love Hillary in which case you are not a true democrat if you can easily change your skin because the leader is not the one you chose. Total bullshit! If I were a party leader I wouldn't want wishy-washy supporters like that any way because they do not believe in their party.

This is what I admire most about the republican party-- They can be mad as hell that the wrong dude won, but they will stick it out and pretend they sort of love the guy because he is one of them. Dubya is a great example. You all know billy bob would have prefered someone more Republican than dubya...but they still voted for him when it was time. They didn't all of a sudden become democrats!

I was just listening to some pro-life chick at the convention and she too has just made me nauseous. LOL... can someone sensible take the stage please????

Frankly like I said before, Biden is a good pick for Obama-- he could have done better, but this will be okay. HIs choices weren't that good any way! It was like dumb or dumber? McCain has better choices, so I hope he doesn't mess up!

Oh and I always knew Edwards was a slime ball!!! What the hell was that???? While your wife lay dying you were out making mr happy very Happy??? I seriously don't understand how men have been in control of the world this long! (oh that still doesn't mean I like Hillary!)

Any way, at this point (and things could change), I believe McCain has the presidency in his hands. He will only lose if he messes up pretty badly-- in which case this better be the last time he stands!
For one thing, people are tired of hearing about Obama: negative or positive. For another, Obama's party has MAJOR unity issues and they will be his downfall.

Okay I am off to watch the "real" convention it's 9pm:-)

Vice presidents

For McCain: the nominees are Tim Pawlenty, Colin Powell, Mitt Romney and Bobby Jindal (how about my gurl Condee?).
So I think He needs to pick Colin Powell or Bobby Jindal.
Reasons:
Colin Powell counteracts the Obama effect. Also a lot of service men might find McCain more palatable with Powell by his side. There is much ado about Powell being a C student...but what the heck...so was McCain..and so are a lot of other folks out there!
Bobby Jindal would also somewhat counteract the Obama effect. I just think he has a brilliant history, seems like a well rounded lad, and his age will benefit McCain and make him look not so old. He will probably appeal to a lot of immigrants-- you know the whole 'American dream' thing.
Why not Tim Pawlenty?-- say what now? Tim who????
Why not Mitt Romney?-- might as well use Newt Gingrich! or better yet, Ann Coulter's crazy ass! The guy just kinda creeps me out! Okay, so maybe he would be as silent as Dick C., except when he shoots people with pellets... or something:-) Which is highly doubtable coz the guy seems like he likes his own voice plenty!

Obama has Hillary Clinton, Kathleen Sebelius, John Edwards, Joe Biden.
I pick Hillary and Joe
Hillary Clinton:- Well since she only lost by a few points, and has proven to be a tough candidate, and she knows people and can get blue collar people...etc, I think she would be helpful to Obama. The problem with her is that he ran against her and things got a little ugly...so if I were him, it would be a tad hard to trust her. Though maybe she would work hard to leave a legacy as vice president! Who knows.
Joe Biden: Well...4 words. Foreign relations committee chairman. His son is also attorney general of Delaware, and is with the national guards and may be deployed to Iraq soon. So there you have it.
Why not Sebelius: Don't get me wrong, I have a soft spot for her since that one priest refused to give her communion...etc. State of the union speech was comme ci comme ca. The problem is, she is as unknown as Obama... Okay she is motherly looking enough that she would appeal to women voters...a lot more than Hell-ary, so if a woman is really needed this election...sure he could use her.
Edwards: I am not being a hater... y'all know I just think this man should stay home and help care for his dying wife instead of stressing over elections and such. He would be okay, but he obviously hasn't been strong enough in two campaigns. I am sure you will say, well neither has McCain and look where he is now, or that Biden had been unsuccessful twice... but still. Edwards can do other work... secretary of state? or whatever.

Confused Catholic Voter

I have been fighting with my conscience who the better candidate is in this election as far as moral issues and social justice..etc.

So I understand that Abortion is a 'disqualifying issue', because voting for someone that is pro abortion is assisting in the act itself by default. I also now understand that even though our calling in the church is to preserve life-- we can allow capital punishment such as the death penalty because it is an act of self defense.

Another issue that, Pope John Paul II (MHSRIP) stated before the 2003 war that this war would be a defeat for humanity which could not be morally or legally justified. He strongly opposed the war, as he strongly opposed abortion.


So if one candidate is sort of anti abortion, but supports the war, and the other is pro abortion and does not support the war, are we morally obligated to boycott the elections as catholics?


If we vote for either one of the candidates, aren't we guilty of sin by association for either encouraging the death of the unborn child, or the death of the living child?


My questions come in the light that Douglas Kmiec and Gov. Sebelius were both denied communion recently based on issues to do with abortion. So if we vote do we get excommunicated then?

Obama

Tonight, I curtsy to Obama.
Regardless of how I think or feel about his policies, loyalties, promises...etc-- The man has made HISTORY. That is more than you can say about many- myself included.

After many years since the abolition of slavery in the USA, this is the first black citizen to come close to being called 'Mr President' and for that I commend him and the American people for finally 'somewhat' suspending the color divide.

Who I'm I kidding! Once the real race is on, it will all come down to black versus white and not so much who has better policies.

Any hoo, Obama has made it further than I thought possible for him, and so he deserves a curtsy from me.

It's an Obamanation

Okay a few interesting facts, that one of you out there might be interested in and probably don't know:

Aside from the fact that this guy has proved me wrong...which is very rare because guys never prove me wrong:-) lol... I am sorry that I had written his political obituary even before he had started looking for votes. Actually even Hillary for that matter has proven my theory slightly wrong. So kudo's to the both of them.

The thing I wanted to say today though is that I found out Mccain's top aide Mark McKinnon (are they both Irish? lol) said that if Obama wins the nomination, he will step down as Mccain's aide!!!! Those are some very strong sentiments right there!

Granted (if I'm not mistaken) Mckinnon was a democrat before he went republican and then he was one of the power tools in getting Bush in the white house.

So I think like I said, when it comes down to the wire... if it's Mccain vs. Obama...dude might have a chance. For that matter if it's Huckabee vs Obama, he would still have a chance!

I still insist that if Hillary is nominated, the dems can forget it and drink guiness or something, coz they aint gonna win:-)

Another bit of info...president G.dabya (after stressing that he wouldn't endorse anyone BTW) sort of endorsed Mccain over the weekend... well I think that's a little like political crucification for Mccain or maybe it will help him. Who knows?

Oh I am soooooooo good!!!! I had predicted Ghana v. Cote d'ivoire and that Ghana would win, and then I predicted Egypt would win overall... ask my friend that I bet with:-) I should have added more money to the challenge....nah wah!

It's been an interesting few days...I think I'm either catching a cold or maybe the alkee I over indulged in is catching up, or maybe it's the distressing thing that happened to me regarding facebook:-) and that's all I will say on this matter....Ladies and Gentlemen....The mighty have fallen! Ndiiituuu!

I over booked myself as far as activities are concerned and I am feeling it all catch up. Friday I spent most of the day out..doing stuff. Then Saturday I was out with friends for the usual get together. We did Sushi first, then we went to The Vin restaurant for dessert and of course wine :-) Now I found it rather upsetting that they didn't have my favorite wine on the list any more. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that it is called 'negro/ negra' something, so possibly someone was offended and had it removed which is just pathetic really because they should have consulted me first! That wine was the bomb man!

Dinner was great...and you know you need to cut down on going places when the waitress in a busy restaurant turns and says "nice to see you as usual" The newbies at the table turned to me and asked exactly how often I go there...I responded with a smile because I was too embarrased to say how 'often' I go there. They were like, 'why don't you ask for the usual', i was thinking to myself...'i bet i could', but I didn't test the waitresses knowledge of my likes and dislikes:-) she was too sweet.

I enjoyed the camaraderie and the cosmopolitans and the cute little desserts we ate. I like the fact that the Vin actually serves bite sized desserts, so that way you can eat several different kinds. They make apple crumble and ice-cream in a cappuccino sized cup, and all sorts of other wonders...you know creme brulee, souffles...etcetera. The mangoe and rasberry martinis that they make there are to die for!!! I can still taste them as I sit here typing...ummmm:-) Little miss Asia and I were the two minorities at the table, and we sat at direct angles so we could balance the table dynamics...lol:-)

I also wanted to go out to see http://www.bodyworlds.com/ I didn't have the resolve to do so, so i stayed home instead catering to my other addiction- reading. I am almost done with my book and I will discuss it when I complete it. It seems I was the last to read it because everyone I speak to about it has read it already and wants to start telling me the story....I am like....NNNOOOOO!!!

Oh and you can forget about me giving up cussing, coz that didn't last long! I forgot about my slight tendancies to semi-road rage, so I sinned on day 2. So needless to say, I gave that up and I am now trying to follow the new carbon fast craze...hmmm we'll see how long that lasts:-)

See the issue I have with restraint is that everytime someone tells me I can not do something...I keep hearing that I can in my head and, the more I try to control myself...the harder it gets to abstain from something... mon dieu c'est difficile!!!

Obama is in town tomorrow, so if the weather is condusive and the flesh is willing, then I will go and listen to him speak. I'm sure I will quite enjoy it.

I would also like to see 'Caramel' a movie set in Beirut. I have two escorts to the movie, but can not decide which one to take:-) This is what happens when you're too popular...*hair toss and loud sigh*

Dust in the wind

all we are is dust in the wind....
Today was ash wednesday...and I have given up using swear words for the duration of lent, and I have also added a new prayer a day:-) aren't I so holy???

So the election looks pretty tight...

Well okay, McCain is a definite and well...hillz and bama are still tugging at the prize. In all, I hope Obama beats Hillz. Not because I like him, but because I don't want her to win that's all:-) I just find her too hollywoody... a real piece-a-work!!

I don't know man...none of the main candidates buzz my biscuits! They just don't give me warm fuzzy's. okay...

McCain:- For one thing...he's like old. Not that I am anti old people or anything...but dude's a walking aneurysm! He's also quite millitary in his demeanor which is a good thing I suppose as he will be running a country:-) I also liked his immigration stance, and a few other things I read about him online (sanctions on apartheid south africa...etc). I do not like his stance on guns, nor that he doesn't support a minimum wage increase. Does he not know the price of gas and that maryland taxes have gone up? shoot!!!
To be fair, I think he is very vested in this country being that he is from a family of navy men and that he fought in Vietnam and was a P.O.W. He has a long enough resume that he should be considered for the job due to all his experience.

Hillary aka Hellary:- I just feel something wrong there. She's also pro-choice and pro- death penalty which doesn't sit well in my tummy. She has an impressive albeit wishy-washy history what with the whitewater scandal, lewinsky, her old ties to the republican party, Iraq...need I say more? But she has come a long way in the scramble for president and I am sure she's a splendid lawyer. She just isn't for me.

Obama:- well being 'the new kid on the block' could work in his favor I think. The decisions of the inexperienced sometimes supercede those of more seasoned people. He has also come a long way! I would say it's quite impressive that an unknown (in comparison to his contenders) guy could sweep through and make this kind of ripple! He is quite the inspirational/ motivational speaker and that's what I really like about him. As for what I don't like:- he supports partial birth abortions and the death penalty. I agree partially with his reasoning to allow women to make their own choice...but he messed up with the partial birth abortion bit.

My main issues that I do not compromise on are gun availability and abortion. I do not see how someone can be pro-life yet support the use of guns. Nor do I comprehend how a person can be pro abortion, yet support the banning of guns (okay I can...but you get the point I am making right?). The rest such as taxes? give to ceasar what belongs to ceasar. .. etcetera.

What to do?

The anesthesiologist was sick this morning....so all operations were put on hold at work...and I was sent home really early. I worked for a total of 2 hours:-) so I guess it sucks to be the rest of you stuck at work innit? lol.

As always, I can not wait for friday. I may go to 'the beatles revival' in D.C. tomorrow night, but not really sure of the details though it sounds like fun! I get the sudden urge to dress in my '60's best and do an afro or something:-)

Any hooo, it turns out Edwards and Rudy have bowed out gracefully. Considering the circumstances, I think they have made the right choice. Rudy coz...welll he wasn't going anywhere and like I said from the start he should have let his legacy rest tied to 9/11/01. As for Edwards... as I said from the start, dude should have been home taking care of his dying wife.

The democrats are no longer a 'may-the-best-man-win' competition. It's now heavily centered on race and sex, which is just unfortunate! I wish people would move away from selecting people using such trivial factors as race and sex when the real question is: can the person do the job or not. period.

My predictions--

• If the dems send Hellary forward as their prez- Then Reps. will certainly win.
• If the dems send Obama...it might go either way. Only problem is-- will he make it to the White house or follow in the footsteps of JFK? 'specially now that he's been given the Kennedy's seal of approval... aren't they supposed to be the cursed royal family? Dude if I were Obama I would be purchasing some holy water and having a church revival at my house after this!!!!
• If the dems keep pulling scabs off each other... the reps will win.

Moving on:- in the world of soccer- Zambia drew Egypt yesterday 1-1...which is super cool since Egypt had beaten Cameroon 4-2...which is weird since Cameroon beat Zed 5-1. On a funny note-- every team in group C beat Sudan 3-0...that's quite hillarious! It almost sounds like a rigged game:-P....!

Kenyans are back to their usual kill the bugger tricks... and the laughable African Union is in discussion as to how to progress in this matter. Well... the A.U. couldn't contain Sudanese militia, has failed in Congo, Chad...etc and couldn't even get Mugabe's old ass to retire.... what will they do for Kenya??!! aahhhhh.... the issues of sovereignty revisited...

I think to sort out the problems in Africa, you need a real dictator running the whole damned continent! Gaddafi has offered as much and has been rejected. His crazy ass even says he'll only deal with Europe and the middle east if Africa rejects him again! lolol... and that's supposed to scare someone? who's he kidding!

State of the Union Address tonight

I will be watching my favorite comedian G.Dabya addressing the nation tonight and I look forward to it.
I was invited to play a state of the union drinking game and I look forward to it too:-)

Fox news had a story today about how many high profile blacks are not supporting/ funding the Obama race... now seriously. How is that important in 2008???? Will Obama be the president of black people only or of the UNITED States of America? If the high profile blacks do not like him is it a big deal??? That is their choice and they shouldn't be forced to like him just because he's black and oprah says he's aiiight...!!!
When will people get that you judge a person based not on their COLOR or SEX, but on what a person believes in or how they behave??? I am really tired of ignorance and unfortunately there are too many dummy's out there! Look at the story below...

Iowa Caucus

I am soooo nervous about Iowa as if I have stakes in the elections:-)
I guess the suspence is killing me...who wins? who goes home a loser? what happens next?
I was just watching Huckabee on Jay Leno's show (i know right? how bored I'm I?), I waited up for him because I figured I haven't really given him a chance. I listened to Ron Paul and after that I shut everyone else out of my mind. So I stayed up tonight especially to listen to Huckabee.
The things I took home from what he's saying:
** love his policy on taxes and how he's going to make sure "the man" doesn't keep us down by changing tax brackets to make it easier for those of us that aren't wealthy to get along smoothly. I liked that he mentioned that the system encourages us to be lazy because when we work hard we get punished for it with high taxes!!!

** #2....OMG!!! Did he just endorse Obama???? This is getting soooo interesting!!! He said they are alike...etc. I am not sure what to think. a) he could just be a nice guy.... b) he could be saying it so that Obama wins now, so huckabee can take him out easily later...when it's just the two of them!!! lol

Okay no seriously I thought that was really sweet of him to promote a fellow contender on a show that was supposed to be promoting him:-)

So Kudo's to Huckabee... he is finally "one of us" in my eyes.

Religion and elections

The New york times has an interesting piece today about the rise of Mike Huckabee and how the christian rights groups. It reminded me of something I heard last week on NPR about how important religion is to elections. I think a lot of people underestimate how much clout the christian rights groups have in American elections. I remember my cousin telling me during the last presidential election that her church and the surrounding christan churches kept prompting/ promoting that president Bush should be re-elected d/t his being better morally prepared than his contender.

and what I think he was trying to say is that it's not possible to leave out religion in politics.

The funny thing is, quite a few caller stated that they believe in separation of church and state, and feel that religion shouldn't play a part in politics and morals should be the deciding factor. The thing is.... where do people get their morals from? They learn them at home and from the communities that they live in. Now supposing their family is religious and instills religious based morals in their children. Cann't we then suppose that religion will make it into the government any way?

Ofcourse the politians aren't sitting there saying the are making decisions based on their religious convictions... but at the same time if you think about it...they sort of are. I guess the bets thing about separation of state and shurch is that nobody in governement can sit and push their religion on you...which wouldn't matter to me if they did because I am comfortable in my religion anyway and wouldn't be mad if they wanted to sit their and talk about theirs.

Well that's my take on things.

Dem Debate

Okay, so i ended up watching the debate anyway...
Gravel at first seemed just well...senile, then he sort of started to make sense when he said "follow the money!" I also felt sorry for him, what's the point of being invited to speak in a debate when only a few people are chosen to speak?

Richardson scared me when he didn't seem to respond honestly to the question about traveling in a private jet...what he didn't know the difference btwn a private jet and united airlines??? urrrgh! politicians!

Obama:- (Sometimes I wonder if I'm watching the same program as other people!) when they asked him about soldiers dying in vain... he responded by saying that "they are doing what has been asked of them"...and also the other question abouut meeting with cuba, venezuela...ect and he said that talking to those countries is better than not talking...but someone said that he didn't respond to the question... well english is my third language so i probably didn't understand him, because to me the statement means if they are doing what is asked of them, then they have not died in vain, and yes trying to find common ground with the "axis of evil " Over all I think he did a pretty good job.

Clinton:- Edwards was right... the jacket was a no no for a presidential debate! It had a... kim Jong-Il effect...I wasn't feeling it! I also think she did well in the debate... the sme fluff and buff they say... but well thought out responses... i.e the question about talking to cuba et.al...

Dodd:- oh heeeellll noooo! how does that man have a kid in kindergarten?

Talking about aging people and children. I got my social security benefit explanation...or whatever it's called. So on what part it tells me I'm eligible for benefits if something happens to me and so are my kids and my husband. My parents would definately be screwed if i died...coz they get nothing! I do not understand why the American family is defined as 'husband, wife, children under 21.' Even jobs give youu benefits for only husband, wife, children...not for your parents. It doesn't make sense especially since many people take care of their aging parents and there is a high divorse rate in the country! Why can't I sign up for benefits for my parents at work? To me, immediate family includes parents no matter how old I am. When we age, we become like children and need someone to look out for our needs. The nursing home isn't family. Seriously. Okay I'm knackered, but you get my point innit??
