Alleluia, Alleluia , Alleluia!

Happy easter to all of you...yes even you pagan P!
I am having some fatigue issues...maybe its mono???lol....
any way friday was a sheer waste of a few hours...I could have stayed home sleeping, but I was asked to "fill" in at work. Almost everyone was away and i practically sat at work all day doing nothing! I was actually begging people to get sick so I could have someone to assess...it was pathetic! Then we went out for dinner...then i fell asleep...then i woke up- saturday.
I find easter rather depressing because I get really home sick. I am convinced no one can do easter like Saint Dominic's in zed. The easter triduum is like the biggest celebration of the church and they go all out. I am talking goats laid at the altar, liturgical Dancers, the lighting of the funeral fire....and the big ALLELUIA! So this year instead of going to my usuall church and getting irritated by Monsignor Tinder's bigoted views (ref: http://manena20.blogspot.com/2006/04/sundays.html )I opted instead to attend mass at Saint Peter's Basilica via EWTN and play my own Zambian catholic CD's...church was bangin' in sister Manena's house!! The only thing I didn't have was the eucharist and that's fine coz I didn't go to confession friday:) So since I cheated, easter came early for me. When the bells rang in saint Peter's...it was easter for me too! That left me with enuff time to go meet my aunt so we could get the program ready for mama C.K's memorial...and without giving away too much, you guys going for the memorial will be much impressed! After several blonde moments we got it together, and i can say that I'm not only pretty but talented too, and ofcourse modest:)
I will leave you all with one of my fav Chewa hymn:

a jehova, chikondi canu, ni co dabwitsa anthu! munalenga ziko lo kongola. ci kondi canu sinditha ku chinvesa mu na pasa anthu o chimwa moyo wa uthali co linga kuthi alape athembenuke. Mu na thulusa chi baraba mu dende. Baraba chinali chigawenga co paya anthu. Muna manga yesu o funa kuti pulumutsa.

A mayi Maria, munkhale nkoswe yanga. Ine Mwana wanu o chimwa monga nkhosa yo sochela, ndigwireni zanja. Mu ndipelekedze kwa ambuye, belu yanga ya lila kupuma kuli kundisiya. Moyo wanga uli ku bitsala naga ndi tawile kuti, kwa satana kulibe malo. Nkhululukileni a mbuye wanga.

The I word.

Most citizens of "developed"/ "first world" nations shudder when they hear the word Immigration...especially when its preceded by the word illegal.
Most recently I came across a college students blog here in Maryland and she was bemoaning a lack of support from the new Governor O'malley for wanting to sign a bill that will permit undocumented aliens (that have completed high school in the state of maryland)to get in-state tuition. Now I personally don't see wnything wrong with this because these are kids have probably lived here their whole lives and their parents brought them here. They graduate from high school and need a fair chance at college. In order for them to pay out of state tuition, they probably need to get on a student visa or something...which would mean returning to the country of their birth...which would probbly mean not being able to get a visa back here so screw that option!
The other thing I saw today was on the BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/6507535.stm Now this is an interesting story because if you think about it from a business perspective, I do not agree as others that President Dabya should make all illegals legal, for that really wont fix the problem as more will come in and do the exact thing. It will help for the moment. My proposal is...make a new visa category for south America. With this new visa, the goverment can make a cap as to how many people enter from that region and require them to pay whatever coyotes charge them to come across deadly ground. They would also need to reduce most of the questions they ask at the visa check point. Now I am not saying blindly let Ahmed in from Mexico... do a background check and ask only minimal questions regarding their plans.
If you are well accustomed to getting visas to developed nations you somewhat know what they ask...they have key phrases that they want you to say and standard things that they want to see...sometimes there are things that are too complicated for one to explain to visa officials...such as you have relatives that will allow you to stay with them for free and you can't show that you have the finaces to live in a certain country. There are a few other minor issues that you know will be okay when you get where you're going, but visa officials want you to show proof of things you can't produce...its crazy!
Many people that don't deal with immigration and have never had to get a visa in their lives think its the easiest thing to do..."why don't they just get citizenship or a legal visa?" they ask...well its not that easy....simple as that!

Letter to my Brother

My dearest brother,
You whom I love. Who is first in line for my organs if needed. I have known you since you were born. I remember watching you many nights as you slept, praying over you that were the house attacked may they kill me before you. Even now, I hope that you will live to be at my funeral and not the other way round.
I have watched you grow with my opinion of you changing at each stage from adorable to annoying to amazing. I can not tell you how proud you have made me over the years and I can only wish the best for you and hope that you will do more amazing things in your life.
We do not talk about it often, but I know the hardships you have endured. I know it’s a problem for you that dad is not there and died way too early for you to have known him. He had his faults, but who doesn’t? I would have preferred for him to be here so you could learn from his mistakes or from whatever he did right so it could help you in your journey to manhood.
We had a very difficult conversation this evening, and I knew it would come one day and I have feared this day. I told you before that I had been having disturbing dreams about someone taking you away and I would always wake up in tears. I explained to you that the reason I was having those dreams was because I needed to learn that you are your own person and I need to let you make your own mistakes through trial and error. You are always about 8-11 years old in my dreams, which is probably how I will always remember you. In my most recent dream this week, I accepted what you had to say and I just held you. I did not cry this time. I just prayed and held you.
Like I said to you earlier there are things in life that are hard to explain. It’s like the law school versus music career conversation we had a few years back. You woke up one day and saw where I was coming from. I feel the path you ‘might’ choose is the wrong one for you because I have seen it not work for a countless number of people. My feelings about the subject could also just be my prejudice, and I am somewhat ashamed to admit it. Religion and faith are two things no one can chose for you in a free society.
I have crossed the line with you many times by defaulting to the position of ‘mum’ and not sister, and as ‘mum’ I am having a hard time accepting that it’s time to let go and let you find your own path. At times I feel the worl is waiting to take advantage of you. There are questions in your life that I can not answer for you, and I am glad you have found what/ who can.
I will always support you even when we disagree. God made sure we were born in the same family for a reason. He just forgot to give me a 'being sister' manual.
Use your judgment. You are probably smarter than me….nah! Who I’m I kidding? We all know I’m smarter Live your life to the fullest. It is YOUR life to live.
To handle yourself, use your head, to handle others use your heart.

FYI: I did cry when I wrote this because I am a foolish lady… and with your help, I will eventually learn to be less judgmental and just let you be you.
Je t’aime.

Days are longer in Zambia!

I know I am not the only one that has noticed that days seem to be longer in Zambia than they are in the USA. I remember waking up at 8a.m to run errands and I would be done by noon and twiddling my thumbs! Now here, I wake up at 8a.m and I am still late for things and I am never done by evening. Maybe its coz there's more to see and the bush girl in me likes to go sight seeing in the city...but it just amazes me that I always ran out of time!!

Friday, we went out for Lady P's birthday to our favorite spot www.sushihanatowson.com Yummy yummy sushi...so fresh and tender I could have some now! The service wans't as good as usual, the towels we'ren't as warm as usual and dinner came late...but it was worth the wait!
I came home with a new motto..."do not wait to celebrate" isn't that so cool? I thought of it myself! So following that new joie de vivre...I popped open a bottle of champaign that has been waiting for a "special" occassion in my fridge and I figured now is a good time as ever to celebrate...ME! For if i do not celebrate my life...who will? the clocks-a tickin' and i aint got no children...except for my 2 year old niece, who i might cut out of my will because a) she has been refusing to come to the phone and say hi to me recently and b) I think she STOLE my mommy...!!! So I will be proud of my achievements by my lonesome!
I threw myself a party saturday...great turnout!!! Spent ages on the phone as usual and sunday I over indulged in rich chocolate cake slabs and slabs of it and I need to eat ice-cream. I also got to eat some kabobs and grape leaves from www.cafeisis.com ...not impressive! I wish I could have a real scharwama...like the ones from northmead...not the most common egyptian ones that come on pita bread...thats sooo yucky!
I will be working the whole of this week which sucks, coz my co-worker has to go away...so I am not a happy camper.

What that do booboo???

this posting is probably unrelated to the title...but oh well its my blog...and I can do what I want:)

So I am back at the school with the posh kids...and boy was it fun to listen to them go on about their spring break... "i was watching my boat get built for the summer?" "We we're at our other house in the islands?"... and i can't go into details, but the story involves a famous actress and something to do with the 'wedding crasher' movie.

I'm having a crappy dinner of cereal and cheetos coz I can't be bothered to cook tonight...and before you call me ghetto fabulous...cereal can be eaten any time of the day Ryan!

Also why do some people in the world lead such sad lives? Somebody I know had a crisis today and I picked up the phone call informing her of the crisis. So I relayed the message and she had to run out to the hospital because her sister was at that D.N.R (do not resucitate) stage of life. The poor lady is American, and she has nobody but her sister- who is ill, her mother- who is also ill in a nursing home and her eleven year old son. She had no one else to call in this sad instance. I on the other hand have a gazillion people I can call in a crisis. Now granted the death rate in Zambia is pretty high and I may have to erase a few numbers each year...but I have American friends I can call too. Their broke asses wont give me any money, but they'll certainly let me cry on their shoulders! I just wanted to share that sad story with you.
*********************************************************************
Guess what...another sad story...did you guys hear about the nine kids and adult from Mali that burnt to death in a house in New York? well my loving aunt sent me the pictures of the funeral the other morning and I cried like I knew them! I don't know what's up with my hormones...no I'm not pregaz...but my periods were late:) I know T.M.I (too much info!) but my life is an open book:) Oh i'm sorry back to the pictures! They just captured sorrow at its best. I have no idea what the man that lost his wife and children was feeling...especially since he was sworking 2 blocks away when it happened...wow!
I was amazed by all the Islamic Africans that assembled in New York for the funeral...I mean all you could see was a sea of colors as they stood apart from the men at the funeral.

SaveDarfur.org has a post called "Generate Press Coverage" that's worth checking out...

Media coverage of the ongoing genocide in Darfur has been woefully inadequate. The Center for American Progress found that during June 2005, CNN, FOX News, NBC/MSNBC, ABC, and CBS ran 50 times as many stories about Michael Jackson and 12 times as many stories about Tom Cruise as they did about the…

Slavery Apologies...

For each piece of good news I got yesterday...I got a small piece of bad. Typically I hate tax time...well when I first moved to this country someone showed me a doodoo way of filling out W2, and it wasn't a problem before coz i made chick feed money, but when I started making double the amount...things changed....I started owing at tax time...until this year:) Last year I decided to just zero out everything on my W2 and it worked out superb this tax season...! I got enough money back to go for my brothers graduation in England...wooopeee!

So any way, back to the main gist of todays blog....its become common place for slavery apologies. My state of Maryland yesterday announced that they have joined virginia in apologising for slavery...and England just hosted their 200 years of slavery abolishment commemorative service.

What does an apology do in this instant? does it really help healing? does it change the hearts of the closet racialists that are lurking around the corner waiting for an opportunity to ruin a certain race? does it stop this maddness from ever happening again? is it important? majority of the punks that commited these atrocities are D.E.A.D.... they are answering to the big boss upstairs. Most importantly...will I get paid for being a minority...talk to me in dollars and i'll accept the apology!

So if anyone knows why this is so highly important, please let me know what saying sorry will achieve.

Circumstances made me who I am...I wasn't born ignorant:)

Iraqi Victory

Okay, so I'm not as smart as the powers that be, otherwise I would be president, VP, secretary of state or whatever is higher...but my question is: If initially the Iraqi war was based on the fact that the country had weapons of mass destruction, and then when it was found that t'was not so....the war became about liberating the Iraqis and freeing them from the rule of Saddam...who is now successfully dead and the world is "SAFE"....hasn't America become the victor in the war then? and if so, what's the big deal with pulling the troops out????????? "mission accomplished"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6490849.stm

If indeed the goal was to liberate the Iraqi's from the rule of Saddam and help them taste freedom...then the war was successful as we saw in the footage of the hanging Hussein. Just how much help do the people of Iraq need? they have been freed from their president, why can't they build their country alone? why is it taking their own people so long to train as security? If the Iraqi police never learn, will America or Great Britain colonize Iraq? can they? it seems it will be simpler to just do that, and it will be easier to tap their phones and weed out terrorists...n'est pas? okay smokes coming out of my head...I over thought the issue!

In Memorium Mama Christine Kapiya....One year already...wow time zooms!

Saint Patrick's day

I was planning to stay home all day Saturday in my knickers because I hadn't really made any plans to do much for st. paddy's. As with most of my plans, this one was shattered by 10am when my friend called to "inform" me that she was coming to get me and we were having lunch with other friends down town in Canton/ fells point. So ofcourse I had to quickly scramble to look for something green in my closet...not that the damned Irish ever wear the Zambian national colours in my honor on my birthday!...but when in Rome....do as.... so I settled for my favorite colour...BLACK...and threw on some emerald earrings and a matching necklace. That solved the matter. I was okay going because it was my brother's 21st birthday (ggoooooo deedo!), and I had a reason to drink...:)
So we get to my one rich friends house.....ooohhh...I was green with envy!!!! her house is on the water front, four stories, has a BAR, beautiful bathrooms...(and you all know I love my baths!), an amazing view from the roof top...I mean the tax alone for the place is $14 000 a year, and its value is set to go up. So I guess they are looking at almost 2 million dollars for the place by next year when the $1.5 million condos down the road are complete.
Any way, we left her house and went off down town...where parking is ridiculous especially on st paddy's. Well after several mugs of guinness...I can not tell you where we were. I know the one girls hubby is a bar tender at one of the places that we ended up at...so the drinks were free. It was a really cold day...but the place was full by noon. So you can imagine my state when I got home at 6pm to meet my aunt who came over to my place for a sleep over.
My aunt came bearing champaigne, steaks and a chocolate cake! Then we had the fire place "escapade"...which I shalln't speak of (lest my neighbors are reading) for a while, but to say...I wont be starting no more fires in the fire place for a looooooonnnggg time!
Any way...I need to go throw myself a party....so shalom...
p/s
the picture was taken last year or the year before, not sure which. I didn't take any paddy-pics this year:)

Catholic is Catholic

I am always amazed by how the Catholic church is so standard that no matter what country you're in, or what language is used...you pretty much know what is going on! This past weekend, I threw myself a party on friday, was highly pampered on saturday and had the pleasure of visiting St Matthews Catholic Church in Baltimore. (they unfortunately don't have a website as far as i know)

St Matthews seems to be a highly international church, and it hosted an all swahili mass on sunday afternoon equiped with an all kiswahili choir! It was really awesome, the dancing and the singing reminded me of home! The choir seems to be quite popular and has done tours in different states and has been invited to different churches also. They are called Wasafiri voices(Wasafiri means Traveller in Kiswahili)www.wasafiridancers.com and apparently this website http://www.vioja.net/index.html has a video of sunday which i have not looked at...hopefully i'm not on it looking all crazy! After mass, I was invited to dine with the Kenyan society, and trust me, I ate for all of Zambia, the food was delish! We had nyama choma, kachumbari, several rice dishes, peas and corn (irio?), stews and stews and stews...! don't forget the cake!

I also would like to mention that St Matthews has an immigration center and they provide information and services to people with immigration issues, or those needing housing, food, clothing...ect. Its its a pretty awesome church...and if i say awesome one more time i'll throw my lunch up!

One more thing...if that Sanjaya dude doesn't get off American Idols next week, I might start a petition to have him forcibly removed! he's cute and all..but I don't get who's voting for his vocal capabilities!

wrongful birth suit!

So just as I was about to start thinking I had heard it all... beastiality, fetishes...etc. This woman let me know that I aint seen nothing yet!!!
Apparently a woman in boston is suing a doctor at planned parenthood for not getting her baby out properly! So she wants him and others to pay for the 2 year olds upkeep and stuff!!! Shoot....I need to come up with something to sue someone about!
If the lady didn't want that child, she had a choice to give it up for adoption when it was born correct? why has she still kept something she soo adamantly doesn't want? and why was she having unprotected sex at that age any way? You would think at that age she knew about the birds and the bees...!
I tell you, there are just too many pointless people in this world! SHE got pregnant and now its the doctors fault that he couldn't get the child out, and SHE failed to give it up for adoption... how will the child feel when she's older and finds out that her mothere sued a doctor because she was alive? then when the child becomes a bad egg and starts acting up... she'll be the first to say she doesn't know why! this is riDIKLAS! She should have given that child up for adoption to spare her the pain of this idiocy!
If she wins this case... it will just show us how we have failed morally as a society by letting people deny their errors and blaming others!
*******************************************
On a lighter note...I bought some apples and noticed when I got home that the packet says "apples that taste like grapes" They are called GRAPPLES....EH???? now why would anyone BUY an Apple if what they wanted were grapes??? I am seriously baffled by life now! why can't an apple just be an APPLE???

Scooters going down!

Do not pass go, do not collect $200, honey head straight for JAIL! Its official Libby will be senteced in June...and if lucky...he'll be pardoned by Mister prezzy in 2008...? correct? I think the president gets to pardon some buddy's when he heads out...if I recall correcty clinton got to do it. So I am not worried about Scooter being in the jail house too long! But never the less he gets to hang out with Billy-bob and tyrone for a few days...

Weekend blues

I'm I the only one that feels the weekend goes by too fast? Geez! One minute it was saturday and before i knew it, it was monday! I really shouldn't complain coz I only work 3 days a week... but this is why i was born to be rich...just so I go in to work when I feel like. I swear, I must have been cleopatra in my last life!
I actually haven't a clue what I did over the weekend...I remember being on the phone a lot, and watching Pride and Prejudice...yes again...I can not get enough of colin firth in that movie...seriously! So Ofcourse you've figured out if that story were true I would be Lizzy...:)I also own the new version of the movie, but in my opinion it was a waste of $20, or whatever it cost coz i preffer the older version.

Anyway....
I bought this new lotion for my body, it called palmers cocoa butter: for ashy skin with alpha hydroxy... I got compliments that my skin looks good, but the problem is, it felt like my face was burning after a week of use! My skin is naturally sensitive, but this was a little extreme...so I went to read up on it, come to find the FDA would like me to report such occurances...apparently alpha hydroxy can cause blisters and burning sensations! Fancy telling me that before I invested in a large bottle of the stuff!!!

*********************
I am also embarking on a new adventure...I shall have more to tell on this matter after next week...its quite exciting...hopefully nothing will burst my bubble!

Not sure if you saw this...

I found this story today though its a week old or so.... any way this dude Kenneth Eng has caused an uproar in the Asian and African American communities.... it was in a californian newspaper, AsianWeek... interesting stuff...

Why I Hate Blacks
Kenneth Eng, Feb 23, 2007
Here is a list of reasons why we should discriminate against blacks, starting from the most obvious down to the least obvious:
• Blacks hate us. Every Asian who has ever come across them knows that they take almost every opportunity to hurl racist remarks at us.
In my experience, I would say about 90 percent of blacks I have met, regardless of age or environment, poke fun at the very sight of an Asian. Furthermore, their activity in the media proves their hatred: Rush Hour, Exit Wounds, Hot 97, etc.
• Contrary to media depictions, I would argue that blacks are weak-willed. They are the only race that has been enslaved for 300 years. It's unbelievable that it took them that long to fight back.
On the other hand, we slaughtered the Russians in the Japanese-Russo War.
• Blacks are easy to coerce. This is proven by the fact that so many of them, including Reverend Al Sharpton, tend to be Christians.
Yet, at the same time, they spend much of their time whining about how much they hate "the whites that oppressed them."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Christianity the religion that the whites forced upon them?
• Blacks don't get it. I know it's a blunt and crass comment, but it's true. When I was in high school, I recall a class debate in which one half of the class was chosen to defend black slavery and the other half was chosen to defend liberation.
Disturbingly, blacks on the prior side viciously defended slavery as well as Christianity. They say if you don't study history, you're condemned to repeat it.
In high school, I only remember one black student ever attending any of my honors and AP courses. And that student was caught cheating.
It is rather troubling that they are treated as heroes, but then again, whites will do anything to defend them.

Dreams and such...

I am not going to say I'm psychic because I highly doubt that...but I will say sometimes I have the weiredest experiences!

I first noticed this when I was in the 9th grade and I told a fellow class mate out of no where her father would die...and he died that night! I must tell you I was really scared shitless!!!! Plus you know in Zed...kids thinking you're a witch and all...and the girl was planning to knock my teeth out and suddenly she changed her mind and thanked me for giving her the chance to say bye to her dad. I really don't know why I said that to her.

Sometimes I just get feelings or dreams, and I am never sure how to interpret them, or what to do with the information I get. Like I can feel something...you know how you know something is goiing to fall but you can't stop it??? that's how it feels at times. I feel something will happen, but I am frozen and can't do anything about it till it has passed.

I remember knowing my father would die the very day that he did. We took my aunt to be with him at the hospital and before we drove off I knew, even as we got home and the phone rang I knew. My mother called me into her room, but I already knew what she had to say. Though I knew, I still couldn't say bye to him because I was frozen as always.
When my friend was going to Iraq, I felt he would die...but I didn't know he would get his head cut off. When he spoke in a defensive manner about needing to go...my feelings just said this is it...

Not all my dreams mean something, though I really wish the good ones do. Sometimes like the other day, I dreamt my mother was having a heart attack and I was scared and called her, but It turned out she was having a really bad day, and all the people that I dreamnt were around her when she was squeezing her chest were the people involved in the story of her "having a bad day". Its really crazy, but i wish I was able to know "junk mail" from important stuff when I sleep.

In short I would be happy if I knew what to do to prevent something, or just not know it at all.

Lickety split!

I have some very shocking news people!---brace yourselves...I FELL!!! I have not fallen since I was like 5 years old or something...and this week, I fell...lickety split on the pavement! I slid over some black Ice and landed smack on my bum!!! I was in shock for several minutes sitting in the ice...I couldn't believe that happened and I still don't know how I ended up without frost bite on my gluteus maximus!

You would think that would make the news especially since we are now tired of hearing about Anna Nicole's posthumous tales and baby daddy blues!....aha! why is it when its a white person involved...its called "partenity" issues...but when my comrades are concerned they make it seem like its just some baby daddy issues...like its expected that we don't know the fathers of our children...? reffer to the everybody loves chris episode on "the egg babbies".

any way...it turns out for a minimal fee of $19 you can now pretent to be an illegal immigrant in a theme park in mehico! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/from_our_own_correspondent/6390297.stm

Also Michael Jackson is being sued for the death of an old lady in one hospital that he visited during his trial when he had "flu like" symptoms. This story was carried last week on msnbc and I found it hillarious! They claim because of MJ The lady who had suffered a heart attack was moved from one room to another...and didn't get the right amount of care...suffered another heart attck and died. The lady was like 80 something. My thing is...we move people every day in the hospital for all sorts of reasons including: patients not getting along, VIP guests in the house, discharges, admissions, coz someone has bugs and can't be in a room with others...etc So I will be AMAZED if they win this case... besides the woman was in her 80's and I am not sure what other heart conditions she had...but moving her from one room to another couldn't have caused her second heart attack...but any way...lets sue Michael and make some moolah...wait...I thought he was broke...so whats the point???

I am also proud to say, I have been a little adventurous with my Telly watching...and I have in fact found a station that I can watch rugby and soccer on all year round! woohoo! I also get to watch other things like "the real house wives of Orange County" i am not sure I bond with that show yet..espcially since one little girl had an accident with her mums audi the day after she got her lisence to drive...and the next day...daddy bought her a BMW!!!!! I mean WTF??? where was I when God was passing out rich parents???? Then the other dark haired girl is planning on leaving her Mighty rich boyfriend who does everything for her....now who the hell does that? any way...rich boyfriend if you're listening...holla at your girl boo boo!! maybe you and i can work out somthing...

I also wanted to say I am sooo thankful to the people around me...I can not say that enough. Its like even when I think "oh what a crappy life" someone calls to help me forget those moments. Even though I hardly ever tell people I'm having a crappy day... they just seem to know and call when appropriate. Today I am especially thankful for madame P...I live in the future and she lives in the present...so i'm glad she's around to bring me back to the moment of things when I run off to the year 2050. I am positive "We can do it" Is the mantra for today...

I have no idea why I am usually hungry when I do my blog.... so I'm off to eat...

Crazy Love!

So we all know Love can make us do some really jacked up things right? So I have this one friend that has been in a really dead end relationship for a while now...I am talking about dating a real low-down-dirty-dawwg! He's stingy and hurtful and she has been with him for about 2 years. He's moslem which boggles my mind, because majority of the moslem guys back home are the most generous dudes I can think of! They buy or rent out a place for you, and pay most of your expenses...talk about a real "kept" woman. He doesn't buy her jackary!

So any way, I have been trying to pimp her out for a while, but she never agrees to any of my plans! I have tried to get her on Match.com eharmony.com and some other sites... I also suggested that she go for that 3(?) minute dating thing. I have no issues going with her because I would love to find out excatly what you say to a person in 3 minutes...especially since I can be madame antisocial in certain situations.

I got this line from one show that i happened to be watching the other day...though I can't remeber which "...THE BEST WAY TO GET OVER A MAN, IS TO GET UNDER ANOTHER ONE!" hillarious...but somehow true! I mean you just don't jump into another sexual relationship, but dating new people helps you forget the last "lost love"...I think:)

It's really tough when someone you know is dating doomass-numero-uno, and its not like I haven't had a doomass or 2 of my own...but, I've also had the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow even though I'm too stupid to take the gold:) (another story...when you're older!), I think everyone should look forward to the pot of gold, no matter how elusive it is to get. If you're lucky, you'll find several.

Any way, dating is pretty touch in this city for a certain age group..example... last friday, me, Mr Doomass's girl friend and several other friends..married and single went out to www.vinbaltimore.com which is a pretty classy place, and one where you can rest assured that you wont get hit on by juniour...unless he's stolen daddy's credit card. The food is great and i would personally recommend the calamari and the vin classic. We also discovered one really good bottle of Italian Pinot Noir...excellent... its number 036 on their wine list, but I digress.... so lets get back to the story at hand! There were no prospective single men!!! So them lady P wanted us to go to The still...or Michaels can't remember where...but i think it was michaels, but we found that they had a 60's night theme...and the patrons were between my dad and my grand-pa's age! I mean it was great that they were all having a good time, I haven't seen people have that much fun in a while! My question remained: WHERE DO THE PEOPLE 30 AND UNDER 45 HANG OUT? So yet again miss doomass's girlfriend went home with no new prospects...but I think she's really not putting in the effort..coz she loves her man.

Well let me go and put some tuna in the grill for my lunch..all that food talk made me hungry!

D.I.F.

Death In Family...I can not begin to express how I feel that my family has already had 3ish funerals this year. It's like the usual zed schedule of one death per week per family...such that when the phone rings you're a little antsy...'who died now?'

I have never fully understood the meaning of a family tree until now...when each branch is cut off or chipped...you feel the pain. The closer the branch, the more pain inflicted on the tree.

In the beginning of my life, my greatest joy was having sooo many relatives to go to. Now its the bane of my existance because it doesn't bring me joy to know so many people but sorrow as they slowly fade from the world one after the other. As if we we're numbered from birth to follow a certain sequence. "who's next?" we all wonder as we lay one of our own to rest.

"we mutemwikwa wesu...ahhh..wa uma ku mukoshi. We chiwa, walikalipa. Watusendela umutemwikwa wesu." Familiar words written by my grand-father the late Alick Nkhata ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alick_Nkhata , http://www.retroafric.com/html/sl_notes/04cd_3.html, which has become our family's funeral anthem about a beloved that has since breathed their last... how does one get used to death?

Obama again...phew!

So I thought I was the original queen of dumbness till the Prime minister of Australia decided to open his dumber than I trap and claim that Mr Obama's stance on Iraq "will just encourage those who want to completely destabilise and destroy Iraq, and create chaos and a victory for the terrorists to hang on and hope for an Obama victory". Quite frankly I like Obe's (obama's) response that if Mr Howard was so concerned he could send in more troops! If it's such a great fight, why isn't he (howardoodle) on the front line????

Then I heard some doomass going on about how Obe's not "black enuff?" WTF??? what the hell is a "black" person? I like what what Gwen Ifill( http://www.pbs.org/weta/washingtonweek/gwen/ ) had to say on meet the press...she was like being that I was born in the islands, people here don't think i'm black enough either. There's a misconception in the African-American world and in America in general that being black means being at the standards of African-Americans. Africans are simply Africans and African-Americans are "black" I frankly don't get it and I never will. When the term 'black' is used to describe people or culture, its usually the culture of African-Americans. I can not begin to tell you how many times African Americans have discriminated me for being African and "talking proper" and "acting sadidi (or whatever!)" and looking at me all crazy when I don't understand certain ebonic words...not realising that I'm trying my best to fit in as much as possible and understand their culture and language...never have I met an African American wanting or willing to learn my culture...or my language. Yet I have met many caucasians that have tried to learn something about Zambia...and a few words in my language!

So forgive me if on some days I don't give a rats ass what Kwaanza is, or if i'm not bothered to taste any "chitlings". Thats how the world works....

Vonage

Gosh I love me some Vonage!!! and they are not paying me to say this....coz i pay them...the features on the phone are just soooo awesome! I make a lot of international calls, and a call to england (not cell phones) for me is free which is great...and most of Africa is like 11 cents per minute...I was just told about another awesome feature by Mr computer addict Mike...where my family in England can call a local access number and then call my number and it charges them the same as if they were calling a local number in England! How cool is that???? Its the only phone I know that does that...If y'all know of a better deal...let me know!

President 2008

Can I just say that the race for presidency is getting ridiculous!!! Its like this is the time for all to be presidents! Its insane! Heck I could stand for president and win just because there's confusion and people can't focus...

To Obama I say: This country will have a white female president first before it ever has a Knee-grow president. Fact. Please donate your campaign money to me as it will serve a better purpose. My happiness:)

To Hillary: You have had enuff time in the lime light lady let someone else get some sparkles! I doubt highly that you'll be the first female president. If you let me have your campaign money, I can buy myself a 50-something inch plasma TV and forever be indebted to you, and i'll put a picture of you on my wall.

To Giuliani: Dude...2 words... "early" - "retirement" let your legacy end at 9-11

Edwards: I thought you done learnt the last time that the peeps don't want u dawgg!

Biden, Richardson, Romney, Mccain, Huckabee: Who????? keep talking, its nothing against you, I just don't like politicians!

Gingrich: Now this dude really....I mean reeeeaaalllyyyy scares the hell out of me! Something about his belief systems just don't settle well in my tummy! I heard him speak once...and honestly...I was petrified...his views on immigration are just...woah!

Capitalism

I have been trying to get settled down in my new place, and it has been one nightmare after another concerning my internet and all. To start with Verizon...who I was a loyal customer of for years, told me they could get me service at my new place...note that the bottom of their notice says "initial approval of service doesn't guarantee service" or something in those lines. So here I was patiently waiting even after my "service start date" had passed, I gave them time to get it together, and called in to remind them...and they pleasantly told me they had "lost my order mmmhhh....yeah. But when billing time comes they know where to find me...! Verizon are the same punks that I found out before buying my house claimed untruthfully on my credit report that I owed them money and that they had sent the collection agency after me....but my crazy ass was still loyal to them...coz thats the kinda customer I am.

So any way to cut a long story short...they finally after 3 weeks told me that they do not provide service to my new area....at least 400 people live in my new area...how did verizon not know for 3 weeks that they couldn't provide service here???????? are you telling me none of my buddies around here had tried to get service through verizon before????

This lead me to be mad about the fact that now I had to get comcast to come out again to my house...which means another fee...and plus comcast is more expensive than verizon....mmm I don't know about them being "5X faster" than DSL coz i really don't see the difference...but if they insist that they're faster, then oh well...!

Making me more mad is that companies do not have to have good customer service coz there just isn't enough of a monopoly in the USA. If there were enough people doing the job, you would be able to pick and choose buses, trains, broad band...etc.

Companies have penalties if you do not do things with them on time...i.e airlines wont give you your money back if you don't follow THEIR rules...but if they don't follow their rules...i.e by not leaving at the time they said they would, or not getting you to where you're going at the agreed upon time...they owe you nothing. So they can be late...but you the "customer/ client" who is paying for a service can not.

Also how is it that...I am paying Comcast, or my carpet cleaners to come over and provide a service for me, and THEY tell me they will be there between 9am and 1pm??? I am the customer, shouldn't I tell you when I'm available? shouldn't YOU work around my time since I am PAYING you, you are not providing a free service.....I don't get it!

Ok so after all that complaining I need to go and figure out how to connect my phone....

MLK- 2007

MLK day

Well since everyone is talking about it, I might as well right? It’s MLK day again, one of those holidays respected by few…(most employer certainly don’t since I don’t get time and a half for working on this day!)
********************************************************
Just to go off topic for a bit…I bought a new house in a predominantly muzungu hood, and I have since received many awkward stares…I can imagine they are all planning on selling their places now since blackson just landed in their area…it was so funny. One was like “are you our new neighbor?” and I was thinking “why, yes indeedy! I’s sure your neighbor honey-child!” I’m sure they were off to call the realtor by noon!
********************************************************
So any way back to the real reason I was writing today, I was listening to NPR over the weekend and they had a program on about Martin Luther and how he changed peoples lives, the best story I picked was one woman who was in college around the shooting of MLK and changed her major to go in public prosecution because her dumb-ass-racist roommate said MLK deserved to be shot for thing blacks and whites could be treated the same! I wish I could be as easily inspired by things you know? I mean sometimes I get highly passionate about things, but the passion is short lived because I find other things to be passionate about, and forget the previous thing….ahhh you get what I’m saying:) but if you really want to know what I think, read last years post... www.manena20.blogspot.com/search?q=mlk

Being from Zambia and not growing up in the high tension racist era, I missed by lesson about white folk, so I still get surprised when I hear things and shocked when I watch the movies. I mean I remember how nobody really wanted to go to South Africa in the 80’s and how I still get scared when I hear the words Boer, Afrikaans…etc its like its encoded in my DNA so that even though I didn’t “live it” I still somehow experienced it.

I am sure I’m not making very much sense today, but my excuse is that I didn’t get enuff sleep. The reason is, yesterday I had to move most of my stuff from the old place to the new place and I was pooped, then today I was supposed to have cleaners at the new house and they assured me they would be coming between 7am-9am and I agreed to those absurd hours because I assumed I would be done with them by noon and ready to tackle other stuff…but oh no! at 7:30 they called me to tell me that the people that were supposed to come over had a fender-bender and wouldn’t be able to come, so they were sending another set of people…who made it to my house at 11a.m…and yes I was pissed and yes… they heard about it! 33% discount my ass! So now I am still very tired and I had to sleep on the floor coz my bed went to the new house and I stayed at the old house because—drum roll please—It has cable and internet access!!! How pathetic is that???? I guess I am now officially AmericanJ I wouldn’t have had that option in zed.
I also just realized…I have no new year’s resolution…umm kinda scaryL …. I have to go and think about that now….

Christmas and New Year

On christmas day, my sister, her husband and my brother took me sight seeing, then we went home where they had cooked a special christmas meal and I got to see christmas crackers, which I really hadn't seen in years! So I pretty much felt like the country bumpkin...and they indulged me:) Therein started my drinking spree. I had champers and wine, and the next day purchased some $2 Irish cream...baileys wanna-be. Well in my defence it all tasted the same!

Boxing day, we decided to go to the west end of London. Big mistake!!! it seemed like everyone was out shopping...t'was the start of the sales. We we're walking around town packed like sardines...I am serious! every store was jam packed, we had to hold hands for fear of loosing each other in town! I had to keep reminding myself the sales were in pounds and not dollars, so they weren't all that good for me... but i abused my credit cards none the less. I really thought Americnas love shopping...but in comparison, I seriously think Londoners are bigger shoppers. Every store we went to was packed like crazy and so were the streets...I really couldn't believe it. One store actually claimed it had 150 000 people shop there on boxing day itself!

New Years day, Mercy and I planned not to go out because she had to work... so after a bottle of Baileys...foolish me suggested we needed to go out and just do the count-down. So we got to the club via a guy that liked Aisha...then we got into the club free via a guy that liked Mercy, and we got free drinks all night and a ride home via a guy who liked me... So how about we didn't get home till 7a.m. and Mercy was supposed to go to work at 12p.m....so in reality, we slept for 3-4 hours. By the time we awoke, the loser that liked me had called me atleast 16 times...and I'm not exaggerating. I mean, I know I'm hot...but there was no need to be that desparate! Apparently after we left the club someone got stabbed and died in his girlfriends arms...how sad!

Ohh and I also got to taste Nigerian Snails....I am not sure I'll eat them again..:) Oh and we made a few drunken calls on New Years...sorry Bruce! lol;)

England

I think I didn’t sleep for the duration of my visit…I was almost always sleep walking! I have been to England a countless number of times…but I always seem to discover something new…especially in London. There’s always a new pub or club to go to. My family and friends were awesome at entertaining! I also found out that my scale is a LIAR!! My family confirmed that I HAVE lost weight…so I’m evicting my bleeding scale!

I especially enjoyed spending time with my brother, he has matured tremendously, but I think he’s a little too serious right now, which is both good and bad…oh crap and he reads this….but I also have to say that he keeps his dwellings very very clean…at first I thought its just coz I was visiting, but then I noticed he had like a gazillion cleaning sprays and stuff…he also cooks great food I was impressed. He’s going to make someone a lovely husband!

I finally got on the London eye…splendid view! I am not sure why I never did before…hmmm. I really love the architecture in London…though a lot of the houses have less space than in other cities.

I think I’m also in love with Leicester…I’m still trying to figure it outJ.

My aunt had New Years Eve bash and it was great to see people that I hadn’t seen in a while. It was a little embarrassing because I forgot a few people and felt bad about it, but oh well they’ll live!

Guess who's back???

Ola people...I'm back from my vay cay....awesome awesome awesome!

I left on christmas eve on American Airways...now I always use British airways and I was rather Skeptical about trying something new. Well for starters, AA was like $200 cheaper, so madam cheapo bought the ticket! I was afraid they would loose my bags because of the stopovers and flight changes, but they didn’t…so kudos to them! The only problems I noticed were that, they do not offer free socks, toothbrush, toothpaste and eye mask like BA does and they don’t come round as often to offer hydration either!

I have also decided that when I die, I want to be an Angel or a Bird…yeah okay so I’m pushing it on the angel part, so I’ll stick to being a bird! I just love flying soooo much! If I don’t get a window seat I feel so cheated…its pathetic I know… but it’s me! The view from the sky is just breath taking…

I also love take-offs, but can’t stand when the plane lands….some pilots just don’t know how to do it right….like the one that flew us into Baltimore…I almost thought we were crashing…or that the plane had failed for some reason…any way it was quite scary!

So the bottom line is, I need to marry rich so I can keep going off on a whim…and maybe own my own jet…you know…I want to live large;)

Happy Holidays!!

I am preparing for my trip to England...seems the weather might put a damper on my travel plans, but fingers crossed I will be in London for Christmas! Shopping has been interesting especially since I can not stand crowded places for long periods of time... but tis the season and I can only live with it,

I got a special call from my aunt who lives in the Netherlands and is a Jehova's witness...i think it was a reminder not to call her on xmas day...but never the less I enjoyed reminescing with her. She told me a story of how my paternal grand-mother had been so excited when I was born, and my maternal grand-mothers siter Anne had been amused by it. I don't know, for some reason I thought being a second child... no one was that excited and my parents were probably alone at the hospital, but as it turns out, it was a full house! You know even though you know you're special in the eyes of your family and friends, its always great to hear validation... the occassional "we are so proud of you!", "great job!", "we miss you" and the ever precious words..."we love you!"
My friends and I are going out tonight for more friend time, it's more sushi and wine...and its raining...so my moods a bit dark...can't wait to see my buddy's so I can have a laugh.
Oh and I HATE how the tax man takes a day and a half's worth of my pay check! I could have used that money for extra entertainment on New Years day!
So with that said...love you all! It's been a great year, and it's been great knowing you all.
and if you love someone, let them know...Muah!

Woman/ Black president

I can not believe the good old U.S of A is till having a dumb ass discussion about having a female president! I can understand the apprehension about having a black president because segregation is still fresh in their history. But to doubt a woman being able to run the country? that's just absurd!!!
How many women does it take in America to prove that they can do the job? Why do the religious stuffy-wuffy's think women don't look "presidential"? what kind of crap is that? if women were dum-di-dum-dum's, how did they manage to give birth, breast feed, clean snot off your noses and clean your doodies? OMG where's daddy? he's running for president!

Countries that have been led by women include but are not limited to: Germany, Indonesia, Chile, United Kingdom, Liberia, Phillipines, Finland, Panama, Ireland, Latvia, Sri Lanka, Burundi, China, New Zealand...and OMG! The Governor General of Canada is BLACK and FEMALE! So why is it so hard for Americans to accept that women can lead?
Margaret Thatcher was probably a man in a womans body...and up tp now, I still admire that woman!

It's over!!!

I took my final exams today and I am sooooooo happy school is finally over!! well for a while...but its over, i don't have to do any more papers and stuff...its awesome!

Yesterday I was waiting for a friend to fly in from indianna...and her flight was stuck in cleveland because there was heavy fog at BWI! quite sucky if you ask me!

Oh and I HATE the British consulate in Canada with a passion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Picture this, my friend Talula(not real name) applied for a visa to go to England. She is a permanent resident in Canada, owns a home, has tenants in that house, has a good job and has great credit. How about they told her she couldn't get a visa because they had no proof that she would be able to sustain herself without asking for public assistance, and that there was no proof that she would return to Canada. Now my question is...WHAT DUMMY LEAVES ONE DEVELOPED NATION THAT THEY ARE ESTABLISHED IN TO LIVE IN ANOTHER DEVELOPED NATION UNDOCUMENTED AND MAKING LESS MONEY????????? Quite frankly it seemed more like racial profiling because...no offense, but i'm sure my nijjah brodahs must have tried this before:) but whatever...they sure messed up my reunion! Besides, in two years she'll be a citizen and wont need a visa...so if she really wants to mess up her life and live underground in England they wont be able to stop her innit???

Also, I think my dream job has changed! I would like to be the president of Kenya...do you know Mr Kibaki gets paid over $20 000 per MONTH and that he just turned down a $40 000 raise? OMG!!! well I guess it's logical because he's a president... but mmmaaaannn, I want that salary!

I am going to try and get my friend from the airport today again...hopefully all goes well! Oh and I have to go to a cookie swap tomorrow... yeah, yeah... I know! WTF is a cookie swap?, those chicks I hang out with are turning me sooo white its scary! I had to let them know we have to do more "black" activities!

Nuremberg for Africa!

There has been much ado about the holocaust deniers meeting in Iran these past few weeks. As a people we are soooo stuck to history...but typically only if it concerns white or white-ish looking people.

Where is Nuremberg for Africans? exactly who is on trial for all the killings done to Africans during colonization? how many mass graves are yet to be or will never be discovered? most of those punks that lived and abused Africans are still alive and kicking. What a happy life when you're not held accountable for your crimes!

No one wants to discuss this, and nothing was resolved at the meeting in South Africa to discuss such topics. And yet, there is no doubt that colonization "happened", no one can sit around and deny that it ever happend!

The past is the past. Let bygones be bygones.... lets all move on and stop feeling sorry for ourselves. We can not change that colonization or the holocaust ever happened. Yet with all the money going into Iraq, we could have cleaned up New Orleans by now, or we could have stopped the genocide in Sudan! Places with "actual" problems and not "potential" problems!!!

Civil Rights Vs Homosexuality

ok....so I know i've been bad...forgive me, its almost the end of the semester, and i had some papers due and some other stuff to do to ensure that I wont have to go to my campus after this week...so we're right on track and Friday should be my last day of school and I'll be better at writting...whew!

The Civil Rights state that all men are equal...I don't see anything about men sleeping together in that statement...and truthfuly, I don't see anything about women sleeping with men either. So I don't see how this can be used to fight for the rights of gay people.

With that said, I would like to discuss Civil rights Vs Homosexuality because I'm tired of the gay community stating that they are denied their civil rights because they can't get married!!

Civil rights to me, apply to things that one can not change. I can not change my skin color(bleaching doesn't count! and anyone can see that Michael Jackson is still black!), and I can not change my sex. Gay people however, can be gay today and straight tomorrow! I have seen some people do that. It's only a sexual preference-- a life style.

Allowing/ protecting same sex marriage because its "genetic" will also be leading to a leeway for polygamy, pedophilia, same sex marriage and serial killer...for they too claim their condition is "genetic" and shouldn't their civil rights be protected too?

If a mans sexual preference is for really young girls... i'm talking 14-ish, should he be allowed to marry a 14 year old because its his "civil right"? isn't homosexuallity a sexual preference? Some men have a sexual preference for more than one women at a time... should they too be allowed to marry more than one wife?

Side Bar

*****************

OMG I just found a site for pro- polygamy... www.pro-polygamy.com

************************************

So if Gay people want to get married, could they kindly find another argument? They can not compare their plight to that of slaves or segregated people... it just isn't right!

During the silence

ok...so during my silence a few things happened. I saw the movie Borat, and i can tell you its stupid...but i can also tell you that I laughed so hard at one scene, that my abs were hurting the next day! I seriously felt like i had a major abdominal work out...it was great to realize I can exercise without really exercising...nice!!!

If you're planning on seeing the movie or have already seen it...the part that I liked was the "jewish scene"...when the Jews give them a bed for the night...! The other parts were a little crass....like penises and nude fat men fighting??...tacky!

Also I will be flying to England for christmas and new year, and would like to urge all of you planning any funny stuff like smuggling explosives on the flight to please not do that when I travel!!! I have enough bills to return to than have to pay extra for cancelled flights, extra hotel rooms...and all that crap...so please watch yourselves during the festive season...do it for me, and you'll go to heaven...or where ever you want to go in the after life!

I know there was some news that I wanted to talk about, but can't remember for the life of me...! so i'll skip to today in the news:

Koffi Annan is in trouble with the I-raqi's for saying they were better off under Saddams rule. I am not sure why that shocks the security advisor of Iraq Mr Al-rubaie!!! ofcourse lief is better for him now, he's getting paid i'm sure more money than he made during Saddams rule! so ofcourse things are better for him now! I have heard it said by others that life was better under Saddams rule... because it was a little safer than it is right now....So I agree with Annan on this one! and think Rubaie is acting like a retard.

Also the L.A archdiocese is paying out millions of dollars for sexual abuse scandals. Money that could have been used for the poor as it was intended...I am disturbed by this...and came up with a brilliant plan...CASTRATE ALL CLERGY MEN!!!! there I said it!

World AIDS Day

Okay...so i've been quiet for a while... I know! I have so much to say and soooo little time to say it in... but i'll try to cath up today or this weekend:)

So today is world AIDS day. Are you doing enough to protect others and stay protected? have you been tested? has your partner? do you speak to your children about about it? to your friends and lovers? is the word still taboo in your house hold? does it give you a bad feeling to hear the word? has it affected your family? are you scared?

The challenge is WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MAKE SURE MILLIONS MORE DON'T DIE FROM THIS? Kofi Annans world AIDS day message is for everyone to be held responsible to help curb this pandemic. To read more, go to the UNAIDS website.

something that I didn't know is that several major companies such as American Express, Emporio Armani, motorola, Gap...etc are doing things to raise awareness with their red collections of items...thats like awesome! I know they're capitalizing on the matter, and i'm not quite sure how much money they will donate to the cause, but this message was attched to google under their ad's...also to purchase these products go to http://joinred.blogspot.com/ and no ...I am not getting paid to do this... i just think its cool!

MEASU(RED) RESULTSThank you for purchasing (PRODUCT) RED items. (RED) sales in the US in the first six weeks since launch have raised enough money to:• Provide more than 40,000 men or women with ARV treatment for a year (Note: These treatments are only a small portion of a person’s overall treatment and represent just one year of lifelong treatment.)* Or• Provide more than 2 million peer educators with HIV training* Or• Provide a year’s worth of school materials and daily hot meals for more than 86,000 children orphaned by AIDS* Or• Provide more than 1 million Rapid Tests which detect HIV and deliver instant test results.**Note: These are estimates based on preliminary tracking. Actual contributions are calculated and managed on a quarterly basis

Delay of ARV's in Africa

Someone in my class doing a presentation on Thabo Mbeki assumed the reason that a lot of South African's (or Africans in the southern part of Africa--Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique...etc) had AIDS because Mbeki refused to introduce ARV's in the country. Now I am not sure where the dude got his info from, but I had to correct him, because I remembered that in the 90's drug companies and researchers were not keen on giving poor people ARV's because there was no guarantee that they would take the medication as ordered, or that they would be able to afford the medication regularly. This was important because they were afraid that a drug resistant form of HIV/AIDS would be released into society.

Truthfully, this was understandable though a tad wicked. The rich live, while the poor die! We all know how we used to share medication in Africa. Someone would be like "oh i have a fever!" and someone else would be like "oh i had the same fever last week, take some of this medication i have left from what i took." And they would gladly hand over their left over antiobiotics--which should never have been left over if they were taken the right way!

GOTTA LUV AFRICA THOUGH!!!!

When I met HIV/AIDS

Picture Zambia 1980's. Hushed voices of our parents floated about with word of a "new disease" a.k.a "ubulwele bwishile" (direct translation: the disease that has just arrived). That is how they described what aunt Mwansa* had. I remember being cautioned not to touch her, nor to share any of her utensils. She had her own cup, own cutlery, own plate and unlike the rest of us, her own room. Her ematiated body floated around the room, starring lifelessly at the rest of us. No one explained what the "new disease" was or how one got it. All I knew is, I didn't want to get it!

A couple of years later. She died. She looked like a ten year old in her coffin and nothing like the thirty something year old that she was. Little did i know there were many that would follow suit. Little did I know the damage it would do to a whole nation, a whole continent and the whole world!

My class mates mother around the same time had the disease. I knew because she looked like a ten year old too, and wore dark glasses and a head scarf to hide the effects of the disease. I was afraid to sit near her son thinking he had it too. Finally, one of my peers found out about the disease from someone, and told us one got it through sex. No wonder our parents couldn't talk about it with us! Sex was taboo!!

Five years later, I was in high school and more people were dropping like flies hit by insecticide. The school teachers, local bakers, friends parents, uncles, aunts, neighbors. We had a funeral to attend every week. We were so dissensitized by the symbolizm and sacredness of funerals...we we're too tired and worn out to cry any more. To ease the pain and fear of being the next victims--we laughed. I know so many HIV/AIDS jokes....which are funny in their own warped way.

We were so good at knowing who "looked like" they had AIDS just by looking at the texture of their hair--like a perm gone wrong, or from their skin hanging off their bodies, or from the healing scars of a bout of herpe zoster, or from the wounds that didn't heal. Paranoia was afloat. who slept with so and so before they died? did you see the sores on mary's hands? what about johns lips turning all pink? bashi Nkole's skin is becoming darker...the color of AIDS!

Several years later, I am in the health care field in a developed nation and even here, the devastation of the disease are clear. The only difference is, many of the patients here have more resources and medication available to them. They are not just sent home to die without medication and they are diagnosed appropriately.

There are many people close to my heart that I wish had the opportunity to take ARV's so they could live a little longer.... If wishes were horses!

We are getting closer to international AIDS day, december 1st...and we really need to talk about the disease! I was prompted to this when I realized many people don't know a lot about the devastation of AIDS. My class mates had some really strange questions and misconceptions in one of my classes today...I just feel I will address them in my next few posts.

The Yes Men

I watched the funniest thing today called "the yes men" www.yesmen.org also www.gatt.org

They show how seriously the rest of the world believes anything that comes out of the mouths of the IMF/ World Bank/ American big business partners/ WTO...etc

These guys pretend to be WTO officials, because their website looks like the WTO website, and people write to them to invite them to officiate at certain meetings because they think they are speaking to the WTO.

The guys then do stupid exaggerated skits to see if the people know they are talking to fakes...and the people at the meeting don't notice that the guys are talking s*it its hillarious! tears were pouring down my face as they stood at one of the meetings in i guess norway or something...(I forgot which country) and they told the crowd it was nice and cheap to get a slave in Africa to improve business and textile...and then they blow up a long penis attached to the speakers "super hero" suit and the crowd cheers! they still don't catch on that they're being teased!

So today seems like a day to test my capabilities as a woman.... Its been really rough, and i have neither cussed nor taken my earrings off to smack someone!

I have had a variety of issues ranging from finding an "untruth" on my credit report to the bank losing money which i was transferring to someone.

I discovered all these mistakes last night and could feel my blood pressure rising and all the messed up words I know coming to the surface... I vowed to stay calm and not be all Ghetto and

I SUCCEEDDDDDDEEEDDD!! VINCERO--VINCEROOOO---VINCEEERROOOO!!
